Expansion ahead for Travelodge

Expansion ahead for TravelodgeIt has recently been announced that the hotel chain Travelodge which focuses on budget friendly accommodation for short stays is planning significant expansion, going against the recession which is currently hitting the UK and Spanish markets. This can be attributed to the significant increase in holiday makers and business clients who place a significant importance on sticking to a budget with CEO of Travelodge Grant Hearn stating, “The UK remains a growing market for branded budget accommodation, as it is still well behind matured markets such as the USA and France.”

The plans for Travelodge’s expansion currently consist of 14 hotels which will be opened mainly in the United Kingdom with twelve across the country but this will be accompanied by two further hotels opening in Spain.

Throughout 2013 in the UK, perhaps unsurprisingly 1/3 of the hotels will be opening in London in the north east (Walthamstow), the east (Bethnal Green), the south west (Vauxhall) and the west (Hounslow). The remaining eight hotels will be found in some of the main cities such as Manchester and Liverpool and alongside this Cambridge, Southport, Aylesbury, Chertsey, Kings Lynn and Sittingbourne.

Over in Spain the number of Travelodge properties will be increased by 50% when the two new hotels in Madrid and Barcelona open.

The cost of the Travelodge expansion will be £223 million, a quarter of this will be spent on refurbishing the current Travelodge hotels which is expected to enhance customer satisfaction and strengthen the Travelodge brand.
