Frustated Brits Resent ExtrasHotels who continue to charge guests to use Wi-Fi are simply being greedy, according to a recent survey of travellers.

Guests, who are already paying premium prices for rooms, are asked to pay expensive hourly rates to log on when many cafes, bars and even restaurants such as McDonalds, offer free internet access. It’s of no surprise that this was listed as one of the top pet hates of hotel guests up and down the country.

The research that was commissioned by, found that three in four people think Wi-Fi charges are overpriced and should be scrapped altogether, making it free of charge in both, public areas, such as bars, and in all guest rooms.

Extra Wi-Fi charges are noticed more, with 56 per cent of guests scrutinising their bills whilst checking out. Hotel guests are unhappy that on average, 2 days Wi-Fi connection at a hotel, equates to a home broadband connection for one month.

The second most disliked hotel extra was found to be for car parking, with 73 per cent resenting having to pay for it, followed by fees for bottled water, newspapers and using towels at the gym.

Over 1,500 travellers were questioned in the poll, which found that 80 per cent thought mini-bars were rip-offs, resulting in three quarters of visitors not using them.

Alison Couper, Communications Director for said: “Our research shows UK travellers are becoming increasingly savvy at making their holiday money go further and hotel extras can really add up.”

As mobile broadband becomes more reliabe, cheaper and readily available, travellers are opting for cheaper deals such as MiFi from 3 Mobile. Allowing a user to create their own Wi-Fi hotspot, a £10 1Gb top up will provide browsing of approx 25,000 webpages at a fraction of the cost.
