Premier Inn Unveils Floating Rooms

Premier Inn Floating RoomPremier Inn have announced plans to build the UK’s first hotel with floating bedrooms in London’s entertainment district aimed at combaingt noise.

The new Premier Inn is due to open in Leicester Square in February 2012 with each of the 84 bedrooms floating on thick neoprene pads, canceling out the noise from the square and nightclub below.

The rooms will have no contact with the neighbouring rooms or hallway, almost like hovering, with walls and ceilings covered with an acoustic lining to provide sound insulation. To be sure of minimal disruption, each room will also have windows featuring quadruple glazing.

An expert team of acoustic engineers, architects and construction specialists is behind the innovative design, which has been six months in the making.

Trials of new style rooms indicate that noise levels will be significantly better than the standards recommended by the World Health Organisation, which are generally adopted as the industry standard.

Patrick Dempsey, managing director of parent company Whitbread, said: “It means we can be confident about guaranteeing a good night’s sleep even in the heart of one of the world’s liveliest and most celebrated entertainment centres.”
